Rune watched with narrowed eyes as this new kid, this…Rajan, became friends with her charge, Tori. With an evil smile on her face, the copper haired teen walked up and tapped the boy on the shoulder when Tori left for her next class. The youngster turned around sharply to look down into her angry, cat like gold eyes. He raised his eyebrow at her as if questioning why someone like her was talking to him.
‘Well…’ thought Rune with a slight purr, ‘We’ll have to fix that won’t we.’ She pointed in the direction Tori went and grinned.
“What is someone like you…doing on earth?” The slight widening of his eyes was like cherry Danish to the slinky fire spirit who was guarding the Guardian. Most of her group of close friends was spirits of some kind; Tynan was a Water spirit, Anica was a Tree spirit, Murkzy was a Dark fairy, Doughnut was a fighting spirit, and Zebon was a Lightning spirit. Rajan looked at her with narrowed eyes and gave Rune a dirty look.
“Who, or what, are you?” The scarlet haired spirit gave a crackling laugh, her heart shaped face contorting in the semblance of joy as her shoulder length, shaggy hair twisted around her head in a stray breeze from an open window, catching in the light and twisting like living strands of fire as it rustled. The child-like 17 year old smiled amusedly up at Rajan; knowing she was older then him by far and that she had nothing to fear. Rune turned and started to walk to her class, noticing that the boy was following her and she gave a malevolent grin.
“Just…a Guardian of a Guardian.” The boy seemed to pale beyond compare as the fire spirit continued onto her Study Hall, already planning ways to prank the poor kid out of his mind, and his master and he finally gave up the chase. As she sat down and begin shaping the piece of jewelry that would house a piece of her power so she could keep tabs on her charge no matter what, Rune’s devious little mind began to plot. She would have to get Murkzy and Tynan in on the plot. The class went by slowly, the shape of a phoenix shaping itself out of the strands of metal and mesh of wire that Rune was working into a ring for her little Mistress. She hummed a sadistic little melody to herself about the devil and a farmers wife as she worked on the glittering piece of jewelry. Murkzy sat next to her, the dark fairy chattering her ear off with the plans she had to get back at their brother for the prank he’d played on them last week.
“-and then I’ll put pancake syrup and food coloring in his shampoo then I’ll sprinkle itching powder on his deodorant.” Rune smiled at her friend who had had the front half of her short hair dyed blonde. The rest of her hair was a dark chocolate brown that contrasted drastically with her pale skin, baby blue eyes and sharp features. The fire spirit nodded distractedly as she threaded another strand of gold wire into the ring, her sharp gold eyes narrowed in concentration. A strand of her dyed hair came into view and she smiled at the bright scarlet color…so different from her original emerald green color. She thought it looked better on her then her natural hair color so she kept it that color. Rune turned to Murkzy and chuckled at the rather graphic picture of revenge she was weaving.
“Murk…I don’t think the simple prank of dying out hair when we were asleep deserves such an elaborate retaliation.” The dark spirit’s eyes narrowed, the false blue color hiding the poisonous violet color they usually were. Rune flinched back at the intensity of the hate in her best friends eyes.
“That stupid human we call a brother not only dyed my hair…he only dyed HALF of it! Also, he touched me when I was not able to defend myself.” The red haired teen sweat dropped, her eyebrows twisting in disbelief at Murkzy.
“Uh…yeah; that was the point. If you get ’em when they’re asleep; they can’t kick you when you’re gluing their hat to their head.” Murkzy looked away from Rune and scratched her cheek, laughing in a nervous way.
“Oh…right…” A blush stained her cheeks, causing the red head to snicker under her breath at the other teens thoughtlessness. She clapped her hands in commemoration for the day.
“Way to go Murk…way to fail.” Even when Murkzy’s hand collided with the back of her head, Rune continued to smile smugly.
